LIN AOJIE – HOW DO ARTISTS MAKE A LIVING

Posted on 2021-09-13

Known for his casual, humorous artistic language, Lin Aojie often draws inspiration from communication with people from all walks of life, and examines the ecosystem of the art industry as well as social reality with characteristic insouciance. The Chinese title of this show, ” 人造人 ” (rén zào rén), on the one hand, refers to artificial intelligence that reflects how human beings think of themselves, and on the other hand it is about how people maintain interpersonal relationships. They both convey the theme of Lin’s new work: based on the concerns for artists’ survival, Lin Aojie attempts to set his sights on the surrounding environment of our daily lives. Through the deconstruction and reshaping of historical traditions, social issues and popular culture,
he further explores the complex connections caused by repeated collisions between art and the postmodern world.
