ALVA NOTO – HYBR:ID SYNC INTER

Posted on 2024-05-20

Alva Noto’s HYbr:ID series sits at the intersections between science, art, and culture, having coalesced these themes since 2021 through intricate graphic scores, and spatial albums commissioned for partner in crime Richard Siegal’s dance scores. HYbr:ID III is the most captivating instalment yet, taking inspiration from Japanese Noh theatre to create ultra-physical soundscapes that crackle like trickling grains, shifting pebbles, and heavy rain on glass.

MARK FRANCIS – ACOUSTIC OCEANS

Posted on 2024-05-20

Mark Francis has long made paintings driven by the revelatory insights of contemporary science. This new body of work responds to the speed and complexity of the information age, interpreting data and binary sequences as pulsating bands of colour that stimulate the eye. Vertical stripes in rich tones pulse into one another, creating a sense of movement and vibrational energy that expands outwards beyond the picture plane. Francis sees each hue and line in his paintings as information for the viewer to decode – abstract forms that take us on a subconscious journey of understanding through sensory experience.

THE REAL THING: UNPACKAGING PRODUCT PHOTOGRAPHY

Posted on 2024-05-20

The photographs in this exhibition do not depict rare or special things. They show toothpaste, tombstones, and hats. But these familiar trappings of everyday life will be, at times, unrecognizable—so altered by the camera as to constitute something entirely new. Enticing consumers with increasingly experimental approaches to the still life genre, the photographs featured transform everyday objects into covetable commodities. The camera abstracts them from functional use, at times distorting them through dizzying perspectives and modulations of scale. Spanning the first century of photographic advertising, the exhibition will illustrate how commercial camerawork contributed to the visual language of modernism, suggesting new links between the promotional strategies of vernacular studios and the tactics of the interwar avant-garde. Corporate commissions by celebrated innovators, including Paul Outerbridge, August Sander, and Piet Zwart, will appear alongside obscure catalogues and trade publications, united by a common cause: to snatch the ordinary out of context, and sell it back at full price.

VENTETE’S AH-1 INFLATABLE CYCLING HELMET

Posted on 2024-05-20

Designed in the UK and built in Switzerland, the Ventete aH-1 is a product of 10 years of “relentless development and rigorous testing” and features innovative technology that includes the brand’s proprietary pneumatic structural system. This multi-patented system is at the heart of what makes the helmet unique, wherein pressurized air is used in place of the foam typically found in helmets, leading to a lighter yet equally safe product. The brand claims the product has been certified in both the UK and EU and “exceeds testing requirements”, achieving CE/UKCA safety certification EN1078. Ventete has also had its product independently tested by Imperial College London and found that aH-1 was “better than foam” helmets in mitigating linear and rotational impacts, two of the leading causes of traumatic brain injuries in bike accidents.
