USM X SYMBOL COLLABORATE

Posted on 2023-11-27

Swiss furniture label USM has teamed up with audio brand Symbol to create a four-piece storage collection.

The latest in a string of collaborations from USM, the Symbol collection includes a vinyl storage cabinet, a vinyl display cabinet, a record stand, and a record cart. Each is crafted from USM’s modular component system, and is made up of steel tubes and panels that are held together by connecting balls. This marks a departure from Symbol’s typical material palette, as the brand has become known for its work with solid wood.

REVIVAL SEASON – GOLDEN AGE OF SELF SNITCHING

Posted on 2023-11-27

Much in the spirit of Swilley’s teenage bedroom beatmaking, their debut album Golden Age Of Self Snitching was pieced together largely self-sufficiently, written both remotely and in person, and recorded between a temporary studio space in a health centre and an ad-hoc setup in Swilley’s dining room. A skeleton team of outside musicians contributed additional parts — with Jordan Manly [Mattiel] and Rupert Brown [Roy Ayres, Raf Rundell] on drums, Shaheed Goodie on guest MC vocals for the jagged, spiralling ‘Pump’, and Raf Rundell [The 2 Bears], with whom Revival Season had previously made the Outernational mixtape (“equal parts Prince Paul and King Tubby”) on hand as “vibe consultant”, bringing additional production to a handful of tracks.

MOOR MOTHER – “LIVERPOOL WINS (FEAT. KYLE KIDD)

Posted on 2023-11-20

Philadelphia-based multi-hyphenate Moor Mother returns to the Anti- label for her ninth solo LP entitled The Great Bailout. Another thematically rich and musically dense collection of songs weaving spoken word, noise, jazz, and electronica through Moor Mother’s otherworldly lens, The Great Bailout is also among her most collaborative work to date. Guests ranging from Angel Bat Dawid to Mary Lattimore make impassioned appearances here, as Moor Mother explores oppression of all forms, and its sociopolitical impact on the world around her. Head-y without losing sight of brute musicality, Moor Mother pairs radical empathy with even heavier tuneage.

KMRU – DISSOLUTION GRIP

Posted on 2023-11-13

Kenyan composer/producer KMRU launches his own OFNOT imprint with a new LP entitled Dissolution Grip. Inspired by a recent run of touring, the album folds in field recordings and sound work from all over the globe, which KMRU then pieced together during a stay at Berlin’s renowned UDK school where he rigorously studied waveforms and the roots of synthesis under the tutelage of Jasmine Guffond. To this end, none of these “snapshots” exist in their natural form on Dissolution Grip, as all have been digitally altered to express new sonic frequencies and motifs. While still functionally ambient in nature, the rich scope of KMRU’s work here borders on the symphonic.

CONTENTS UNDER PRESSURE BY CHRISRWK X UVD TOYS

Posted on 2023-11-13

NYC-based graffiti artist ChrisRWK continues his collaboration with UVD Toys to bring an ambitious project to life. A clever blend of word play and compelling concept, the Contents Under Pressure vinyl art toy features the artist’s signature robot trapped in a clear spray can. ChrisRWK describes the concept as having two distinct meanings, both a reference to the pressure to create and the limits created by others as they pigenhole artists, narrowing opportunities. Speaking of limits and pressure, the concept builds on the spray can metaphor with a classic spray can ball attached to the robot’s ankle, ball and chain style.

The concept behind the new art toy began as an arresting drawing and over the years has resurfaced and evolved as an original painting and bronze sculpture. Pushing production boundaries, the art toy features a vinyl toy of ChrisRWK’s robot and a separate ‘spray can’ with a see-through acrylic design. And yes, the robot is separate and can be easily removed and displayed on its own.
