MODERN STUDIES – LIGHT A FIRE

Posted on 2022-01-10

‘Light a Fire’ is a contrast of a space-psych-shuffle with lush 70s style three part harmonies. Together with the subtly arresting strings (which were written as if for a grand orchestral ensemble but restrained to a trio), these became defining sounds of the new album.

Through the hazy daze of a smoky folk opus, Modern Studies craft rich soundtracks, stuttering Super-8 sketches from a washed-out world of melancholy, hand-tinted and tantalising. Lullaby couplets blossom into gorgeous chamber pop melodies, the drama unfolding behind Emily Scott’s plaintive vocal; part Julie London, part Sandy Denny, a little bit Kate Bush, with a hushed sigh of Joni.

Modern Studies announce new single ‘Light A Fire’ from upcoming album ‘We Are There’ out on 18th February 2022 on Fire Records.

BERNARD FRIZE – COME TO ME AGAIN

Posted on 2022-01-10

Perrotin New York is pleased to present Come to Me Again, an exhibition of twenty works by Bernard Frize, taking over two floors of the gallery. For four decades, Bernard Frize has been developing his signature style of process-oriented abstraction. As an artist he explores the bare minimal essence of painting, devoid of conception and aesthetic, instead focusing on an industrial approach to making art. Working in series, he conducts experiments, exploring all the possible visual outcomes of preconceived protocols. While each series records the peculiar dynamics of a predetermined technique, his vibrant abstractions also allow for chance.

WILLIAM EGGLESTON – BLACK AND WHITE TO COLOR

Posted on 2022-01-10

Eggleston is one of the most celebrated pioneers of color photography. He rose to prominence in 1976 with a solo exhibition of color work at the Museum of Modern Art. Known for exploring the photographic possibilities discovered in the ephemeral and seemingly insignificant everyday life, Eggleston’s work presents colors, forms, and familiar objects and scenes, through a different lens rendering them complex and fascinating.

Black and White to Color spans over different periods of Eggleston’s career. It includes a rare group of early silver gelatin prints that formed and shaped the foundation of his aesthetic, vintage color prints, a large collection of chromogenic prints from his Democratic Forest series, several iconic dye-transfers, as well as his most recent archival pigment prints.

JIL SANDER YEAR OF TIGER CAPSULE

Posted on 2022-01-10

Jil Sander is celebrating the Year of the Tiger with an exclusive six-piece collection. Taking the silhouette of the emblematic feline, the apparel brand is highlighting the symbolic meaning of the tiger just in time for the Lunar New Year.

The watercolor painting of the tiger indicates the sign of courage and self-confidence in challenges one my face. According to the lunar calendar, tigers are not only considered brave, but they are also a prominent symbol of power and living a life that is true to one’s independence. While there is a sense of aggressiveness to the feline symbol, it is an amulet of energy. By using watercolor technique to depict its tiger, Jil Sander is giving a nod to the Chinese artistic medium, where often heritage pieces of art are painted with ink and water. The technique gives the Jil Sander tiger a sense of calm while still emulating a strength that is loosely related to the a quiet and strong force.
