JANET DELANAY – NEW YORK IN THE 80S

Posted on 2022-01-17

In the 1980s Delaney worked in a photography lab in San Francisco and from time to time, she was also a courier for companies that needed things delivered to New York. In the morning light, she would wander with her twin lens Rolleiflex through Chinatown, across Canal Street, into SoHo and beyond 14th. Mesmerized by the depth of history embedded in the city’s buildings and the embrace of the cross pushing past her. Despite being tired and often lost, the act of photographing made Delaney feel present and alert, in tune with the crowds and mesmerised by the depth of history woven into the city’s structures. The colour photographs that make up this series reveal the formation of her generous approach to photographing streets and the people who inhabit them, capturing the precious mixture of private lives lived in public and transient moments of connection between photographer and subject.

DIEMME X J. CREW HIKING BOOT

Posted on 2022-01-10

Specialty retailer J. Crew has released a limited-edition drop of its Diemme x J. Crew “Roccia Hiking Boots,” highlighting a collaboration that has an eco-friendly purpose.

Brothers Dennis and Maico Signor designed the boots utilizing their 25 years of production and research experience by expertly crafting each pair at their Calzaturificio factory in northeastern Italy, with elements of the design being inspired by the 2,200-mile Appalachian Trail and its biodiversity. “The hiking-only trail touches 14 states through education, management and stewardship, ensuring that it is accessible to all,” the brand noted in a joint press release.

15% of the proceeds are being donated to the Appalachian Trail Conservancy.

GÁBOR LÁZÁR – BOUNDARY OBJECT

Posted on 2022-01-10

The notions of clear boundaries explode into digitised rubble across Boundary Object, Gábor Lázár’s second offering for Planet Mu. Composed of eight numbered, unedited live tracks, Boundary Object is a hard pivot from the Hungarian producer’s ordered 2020 effort, choosing instead to relish in its controlled chaos. “Boundary Object II” repeatedly assembles into some kind of shape before dissolving into staticky blasts, only to pay off with hints of mutant dance on “III” and “IV.” In stark contrast to the serenely empty room on its cover, Boundary Object is digital clutter, total abandonment of form, and all the more exciting for it.

BRAIN DEAD X DUNGEONS & DRAGONS

Posted on 2022-01-10

Adventure time is officially here. Brain Dead is thrilled to announce their latest collaboration with none other than Dungeons & Dragons. Initially published in 1974, Dungeons & Dragons is the world’s first tabletop role-playing game. Having maintained steady growth throughout the 21st century, it is currently estimated that over 50 million people have played the game worldwide, with die hard fans that span multiple generations (you don’t want to run into them on the Sword Coast). One of the most exciting aspects of D&D is that it is truly accessible to anyone with a will to play. With the only required materials being a set of polyhedral die, a pencil, a character sheet and a rulebook

THOMAS BARROW – THE AUTOMOBILE

Posted on 2022-01-10

During the mid-1960s, Thomas Barrow studied with Aaron Siskind at the Institute of Design in Chicago. While there he completed a visual study comprised of 115 photographs entitled, The Automobile. This series formed his thesis project and examined the role of cars in American culture. The series presented three individual yet connecting sections, which follow the automobile from display in the showroom and at car shows, through daily travels on the street and within parking lots, and eventually to their demise, discarded at the junkyard.
