TUBULAR BABE BY MCBESS X THE DUDES

Posted on 2022-01-17

French artist Mcbess returns his first new original art toy in a while (and we almost missed it). Maybe it was the egg nog or sleeping in on cold Winter days, but somehow we overlooked the pre-order for the brand-new Tubular Babe art toy from McBess and The Dudes of which he is part. Thankfully, the pre-order is still open.

The sunny, leisurely Tubular Babe features Mcbess’s female character enjoying a casual day on the inner tube. A follow-up to his (Half) Mermaid (2013) and Les Viandardes (2013) releases, the lovely figure features tattoos throughout much as the previous toys. Named after Mcbaise’s new album, Tubes, the figure also features a Mcbaise stamp on her lower back. Unlike previous drops, the Tubular Babe comes through in living color in contrast to McBess’s usual mono gray treatment.

BRAINWALTZERA – ITSAME

Posted on 2022-01-17

After launching the Brainwaltzera name in 2016 under a shroud of mystery on SoundCloud, the still-anonymous producer is looking to get personal.

Since his debut full-length Poly-Ana was included in our top 10 albums of the year, Brainwaltzera has hardly made himself scarce. He followed up in 2017 and 2018 with six EPs, maintaining a clip of one EP per year in the years since. His long-awaited follow up album ITSAME comes with the promise of an intimate look at the enigmatic producer, inspired by “navigating the turbulent waters of personal crossroads with cautious optimism for an uncertain future.”

MARCUS JAHMAL – MINING

Posted on 2022-01-17

Jahmal is a self-taught painter, born and raised in Brooklyn, with familial roots in Louisiana and Texas. Jahmal’s paintings are surreal, symbological narratives that exist as documents of our current moment, yet also embody a mythological timelessness. The title, Mining, takes on a number of meanings—mining for materials like silver or gold; mining for oil (a particularly personal meaning as his great grandmother owned an oil well in Texas); Also, the notion of mining within one’s own psyche. The heavy use of black oil paint references this idea throughout each of the paintings, and the work is charged with an intuitive sense of image and color to evoke the ways in which the personal belies larger implications of the universal and the mysterious.
