PETER MURPHY X PLASTICGOD

Posted on 2019-12-30

To celebrate the 30th Anniversary of UK singer Peter Murphy’s seminal Deep album (1989), Plasticgod has created a new vinyl art toy of Murphy, known as both a soloist and as the vocalist of the influential Bauhaus band. Inspired by the singer’s appearance in the video for the album’s Cuts You Up track, the 6″ figure features pearlescent hair, a nod to Murphy’s platinum blond locks and the traditional 30th Anniversary stone, and a solid black outfit.

Limited to 2000 pieces.

THE LUMINOUS WORK OF GARRY FABIAN MILLER

Posted on 2019-12-30

Photography’s capacity to record light has captivated the world since the medium began to take shape in the early 19th century. Aside from its acceptance and spread as a mass medium, its first visual iterations, as a product of science and art, established a signature aesthetic that fascinated future artists with the expressive and transcendent potentials of the medium. Garry Fabian Miller, one of the most notable figures at the forefront of non-figurative contemporary photography, records light directly onto photo-sensitive paper to create vivid, chromatic atmospheres that seem to emanate inward light without the use of a camera. His pictures explore the artist’s relationship to the landscape, as he connects with the optics of the world’s natural phenomena. Garry Fabian Miller’s experience of being in the environment and creating work from it, captures the essence of light and organic shapes, creating studies in visual harmony that originate in nature.

HERNAN BAS

Posted on 2019-12-30

This exhibition will include seven large-scale paintings and one decorative room screen that feature a series of strange and seemingly obscure or forgotten moments that have influenced American culture. This body of work illustrates Bas’ innate ability to
highlight cult phenomena from the past that offer insight into the political and social concerns of today. Rather than focusing on a singular subject matter, as Bas has done previously, this series spans time periods and themes, providing a unique perspective on American subculture and a contemporary version of History Painting.

TOBIAS REHBERGER – AND THE REST SHOULD BE SQUANDERED

Posted on 2019-12-30

German artist Tobias Rehberger (Esslingen, 1966) is a leading figure in the field of contemporary art today. Although rooted within the conceptual frame of sculpture, his works frequently “happen” on the intersection between what is traditionally considered visual art, design and architecture, challenging thus art’s conventional understanding, its classification, authenticity and the romantic notion of the artist. Moreover, making the subject of transformation a central theme of his practice, Rehberger’s work questions traditional modes of perception, awareness and temporality, creating a sense of transience, discontinuity and of ambiguity.
The current exhibition, the title of which, derives from a quote by George Best, a Northern Irish football player, who in one of his interviews said: “I spent a lot of money on booze, birds and fast cars. The rest I just squandered.”, brings together numerous groups of works, which aim to challenge the above mentioned perception of art, by bringing into play subjects, such as, art’s functionality, its reading, authenticity and perfection.

ARCHITECTURE – PLACES TRANSFORMED THROUGH TIME

Posted on 2019-12-30

The oldest surviving product of a photographic process, the first known photograph, View from the Window at Le Gras, presents a fascinating insight into one of humanity’s well-established curiosities early on in the history of photography, the importance of recording the constructed environment. Throughout artistic mediums, the subject of architecture has framed the narratives and developments of some of history’s most defining moments. The buildings and structures that encapsulate society’s stories are essential cultural manifestations. The ability to capture these environments, their transformation through time, and their influence as stages for human dramas to unfold become legacies of human achievement. With the advent of increasingly advanced photographic technology, artists continue to question the transformation and understanding of “places” through a temporal lens.
