ANNA MARIA MAIOLINO – AQUI E AGORA

Posted on 2019-11-11

The show, which occupies two venues in via Stradella, encompasses photographic, sculptural, and video works from several decades of the Italian-born Brazilian artist’s multifaceted practice. The exhibition acts as a survey through the structures of poetic signifiers that weave threads across Maiolino’s unmistakable visual language.

Aqui e Agora, determines a point in time, a present, in which the artist’s decades-long practice composes a vocabulary that is agile, dense, and distinctive. Through the interpretation of feminine daily imagery and in reaction to the oppressive dictatorship and censorship in Brazil during the 1970s and 1980s, Maiolino’s work combines poetic and understated gestures with urgent and politically charged actions: the freedom of expression she has conquered across multiple media has allowed her to develop simultaneous and potent visual languages.

TIMEX X BRAIN DEAD

Posted on 2019-11-11

Brain Dead’s graphic-driven style has taken over Timex’s classic Acadia case design, emblazoning bold motifs everywhere from the watch’s packaging to the backings. The watch comes with two straps, dark olive and yellow and a box etched with the phrase, “when the warm end comes and the clock stops who will live beneath the remains.” It’s an enigmatic statement reflecting the graphic that appears on the face of the watch: all the hour markers have been blurred. The face of the watch sees a black base, accented by Brain Dead’s logo at the center and Timex’s below it, white hour and minute hands and a yellow second hand. To match the face, the casing also comes in black, while Brain Dead branding is placed at the back.

JESSICA LANGE – HIGHWAY 61

Posted on 2019-11-11

“These photographs are a chronicle of what remains and what has disappeared. It has a long memory, Highway 61.” — Jessica Lange

The exhibition, Highway 61, presents a tribute to the storied route which Lange has traveled countless times since her childhood in Northern Minnesota. Highway 61 originates at the Canadian border, near Grand Portage and runs 1,600 miles along the Mississippi River though the American Midwest and South, rolling through eight states, down to New Orleans.
Over the last seven years, Lange has revisited Highway 61 many times to photograph the historic route. Her photography series reveals the thoughtful and powerful connection Lange continues to maintain towards the people and places in this part of America. Lange has noted that “long stretches of 61 are empty, forlorn, as if in mourning for what has gone missing — the hometowns, the neighborhoods, family farms, factories and mills.”
