LEIGH MERRILL – THIS PLACE

Posted on 2019-07-08

Walking through Leigh Merrill’s exhibit is something like wandering around in a film set. The scenes feel almost real, but somehow not quite right. They are, in fact, constructed realities, expertly assembled from multiple sources. Merrill is the invisible producer, directing as if from the sky. She controls every detail, the pastel blocks of color, the very direction and quality of the light. She tinkers with the real world, seamlessly plucking elements from one place and depositing them elsewhere until the pictures are both familiar and placeless.

There are two distinct sets of images in the exhibit. The works move abruptly from the concrete realm of the architectural imagery, to large-scale prints that are a jungle of greenery. There’s no real space for humans in either set of images. In one world, she’s paved us out of the picture. In the other, we’re crowded out by plants.

Exhibition runs through to July 27th, 2019

GAIL ALBERT HALABAN

Posted on 2019-07-08

The show will be composed of eleven photographs, selected primarily from her 2018 George Eastman Museum exhibition, many of which have never before been presented by the gallery. It will feature an array of international destinations from Paris to Istanbul, as well as several cities illustrated in Albert Halaban’s newly published book, Italian Views, including Venice, Rome, and Naples.

Out My Window originated in 2007 after Albert Halaban moved to Manhattan. Fascinated by the interpersonal dynamics of urban dwelling and the unspoken social contract between neighbors who observe each other’s domestic lives through their apartment windows yet appear to be strangers in public, she anticipated experiencing the quintessential paradox of life in a densely populated metropolis- that of feeling lonely while constantly surrounded by people.

Opposite – Out My Window, Chelsea, West 26th Street between Broadway and 6th Avenue, 2009

Exhibition runs through to August 9th, 2019

CHROMATIC – BLEND

Posted on 2019-07-01

Chromatic are new to the Tempo Records artist roster however not new to the Drum and Bass / Jungle scene. Always nice to see producers working together on new projects. On this “Blend” ep they work together with established producers Soul Intent, Tim Cant and RV. A fine blend of different styles & vibes. Track four “Blend” is already rinsed and heavily supported by the legendary LTJ Bukem. The fifth track “Day Trip” is a digital bonus track!
