Y-3 S/S 2019 – YOHJI LOVE CAPSULE

Posted on 2019-04-08

Yohji Yamamoto’s hand is visible in every Y-3 collection. This season, his hand-painted artwork appears exclusively across a new limited-edition range of apparel, footwear, and accessories. First seen at the Spring/Summer 2019 runway presentation in Paris last July, the swirling graphic bears the words “Love, Yohji Yamamoto” and appears across easy-to-wear shirts, hoodies, track tops, and T-shirt dresses that reflect both the adidas and Yamamoto identities.

Many of these garments link to the adidas Originals archive, calling to mind the California Tee or the Firebird Jacket. Other pieces function as reissues of best-selling Y-3 styles in men’s shirting, women’s essentials, and accessories. And in signature Yamamoto style, the collection is available in two classic color options: black on white and white on black.

In footwear, the Y-3 YOHJI SUPER presents a refinement of the iconic adidas Superstar 80s, seen here with a leather shell-toe and the season’s graphic snaking around its uppers. In accessories, a sleek drawstring sport backpack and a capacious white zip-top tote provide style and utility, while a simple cotton canvas cap and engineered sport socks complete the graphic look.

NOAH X ANIMAL FARM

Posted on 2019-04-08

Touching on the nature of human behavior and its relationship to power, Animal Farm is a longtime favorite of Noah founder Brendon Babenzien. In speaking on the book, he had this to say:

“Orwell created a satire and in doing so critiqued the evolution of the Soviet Union from a Democratic Socialist system to fundamentally a dictatorship. Although Animal Farm speaks specifically about the change in power in Russia, for me, it was obvious that the theme was universal and is just as relevant today as ever.”

Noah’s Animal Farm collection consists of T-shirts, a hoodie, a five-panel hat, and a skate deck.

JULIAN STAŃCZAK – DON’T TALK, JUST LOOK

Posted on 2019-04-08

A leading artist of Op Art, Julian Stańczak (b. 1928 Borownica, Poland – d. 2017 Ohio, United States) created from the 1960s a dynamic and joyous oeuvre. The term Op Art itself was coined by The Times after his first major show, Julian Stańczak: Optical Paintings, held at the Martha Jackson Gallery in New York, 1964 where his paintings, full of colour and optimism, gave nothing of his traumatic childhood.
