TARAVAL – AARDVARK

Posted on 2018-11-05

Linking up with Four Tet’s Text imprint for the first time since 2016, Taraval delivers a new no-nonsense EP of murderous UKG and house infected rhythm trax. Having let a handful of white label copies loose around last weekend’s Brixton All Nighter, Four Tet slays the sharks with the hotly anticipated full release of this ace example of why Taraval truly has the chops.

In the time since his debut 12s ‘Streetways’ and ‘II’, Taraval has not only fired out one of the best releases from Hypercolour in an age but has also been performing as part of the Caribou Vibration Ensemble. However, his return to Text brings with it some of his hardest material yet.

MELANIE MANCHOT – WHITE LIGHT BLACK SNOW

Posted on 2018-11-05

‘White Light Black Snow’ is Manchot’s first extended body of photographic work in a number of years, despite the medium being central to her practice. Recently Manchot’s projects have focussed primarily on film, video and elements of performance and in 2017 she was shortlisted for the prestigious Jarman Award by Film London. However, Manchot first came to prominence as an artist using photography in the 1990s and has described it as ‘the backbone to everything I do and to how I think visually. Cameras, whether still or moving, are crucial devices shaping the construction of the work. To me, cameras are not simply machines that generate the images I wish to make; more importantly, they are an organising principle, an apparatus that becomes part of a set of relations I wish to create.’

MASTERS OF PHOTOGRAPHY 2018

Posted on 2018-11-05

The third edition of Huxley-Parlour Gallery’s annual exhibition Masters of Photography will include 30 masterworks by leading international photographers. Over 100 years of photography in all its many genres – documentary, fashion, still-life, conceptual and portraiture are represented in the exhibition. The individual works have been chosen due to the provenance of the print or the image’s role in the history of the medium.
Highlights range from the well-known, Alfred Eisenstaedt’s VJ-Day in Times Square from 1945 and Richard Avedon’s landmark fashion image, Dovima with Elephants 1955, to the rare, a vintage print of Arnold Newman’s portrait of composer Igor Stravinsky, shown alongside a unique set of contact prints, revealing his working practice.
