032C X STUSSY

Posted on 2017-06-12

Stüssy and 032c have joined forces for a new collaborative release with the long-sleeve “Panther” T-shirt.

In celebrating the work of Bohemian-Austrian poet and novelist, Rainer Maria Rilke, more in particular that of his poem “The Panther,” the work is then showcased on the back of the tee in Stüssy’s familiar hand-style font. Limited to one per customer.

THE PANTHER
In Jardin des Plantes, Paris
His vision, from the constantly passing bars,
has grown so weary that it cannot hold
anything else. It seems to him there are
a thousand bars; and behind the bars, no world.
As he paces in cramped circles, over and over,
the movement of his powerful soft strides
is like a ritual dance around a center
in which a mighty will stands paralyzed.
Only at times, the curtain of the pupils
lifts, quietly–. An image enters in,
rushes down through the tensed, arrested muscles,
plunges into the heart and is gone.

ELAINE MAYES – SUMMER OF LOVE

Posted on 2017-06-12

Elaine Mayes: Summer of Love coincides with the 50th anniversary of the summer of love; a period of great social, cultural, and political change that brought together over 100,000 like-minded young people to San Francisco to usher in a new era.

The exhibition will feature Mayes’ intimate vintage black and white portraits of youth counterculture in San Francisco’s Haight-Ashbury district during the late 1960’s. The photographs are compelling depictions that are at once specific to the individuals pictured, as well as definers of that age and era. They reveal a freedom of expression and camaraderie that was shared by a generation at odds with its current social ideals. Together with these images will be informal portraits of musicians and festival goers.

Opposite – Grateful Dead, Golden Gate Park, 1967

Exhibition runs through to June 20th through August 26th, 2017

JEFF DERRINGER – FALSE FLAGS

Posted on 2017-06-12

US based Jeff Derringer makes a welcome return to the Soma roster for his latest EP, False Flags. As usual, the Smart Bar resident serves up 3 slices of his own unique brand of Techno. Each track on the EP defined by its own colour, kicks off with Black Flags. A quite melancholic affair that still manages to weigh in heavy with its pervasive sonic rhythms. Red Flags takes a darker turn with a more direct and abrasive sound, almost sub aquatic at times, Derringer builds a solid air of tension throughout. White Flags rounds the EP off nicely on a deeper tip than the previous offerings. Broken beats play nicely to the atmospheric tones that glide effortlessly through the backdrop of the track.

Release date 12th June 2017.
