WAITS/CORBIJN ‘77-‘11

Posted on 2013-05-20

WAITS/CORBIJN ‘77-‘11, a collector’s edition linen slipcase book limited to 6,600 copies. The coffee table art book not only features over 200 pages of Waits’ portraits taken by Corbijn over four decades, but also includes over 50 pages of the first published collection of musings and photographs taken by Waits himself.

The book is the chronicle of an artistic collaboration that reaches back more than 35 years, to those first black-and-white photographs of Tom Waits taken by a young Anton Corbijn in Holland in 1977. Corbijn would go on to acclaim for his iconic enigmatic portraits of musicians and other artists, from U2 and Miles Davis to Robert De Niro and Clint Eastwood to Damien Hirst and Gerhard Richter, also becoming a designer, a pioneer in music video and more recently, an award-winning director of feature films. By 1977, Tom Waits was already known world-wide for a series of stunning, timeless albums, filled with songs of a noir-tinged Los Angeles that owed as much to writers like John Fante and Jack Kerouac as it did to jazz, blues and tin-pan alley that had soaked into Waits’ pores from childhood. Ahead of Waits lay his partnership with Kathleen Brennan, leading to such touchstone recordings as Rain Dogs and Mule Variations—his film work with the likes of Francis Ford Coppola and Jim Jarmusch, and his stage projects with legendary director Robert Wilson.

THE HANGOVER PART III

Posted on 2013-05-20

It’s been two years. Phil (Bradley Cooper), Stu (Ed Helms) and Doug (Justin Bartha) are happily living uneventful lives at home. Tattoos have been lasered off, files purged. The last they heard from disaster-magnet Leslie Chow (Ken Jeong), he’d been tossed into a Thai prison and, with him out of the way, the guys have very nearly recovered from their nights prowling the seamy side of Las Vegas in a roofie’d haze, and being kidnapped, shot at, and chased by drug- dealing mobsters in Bangkok.

The only member of the Wolfpack who’s not content is Alan (Zach Galifianakis). Still lacking a sense of purpose, the group’s black sheep has ditched his meds and given in to his natural impulses in a big way-which, for Alan, means no boundaries, no filters and no judgment-until a personal crisis forces him to finally seek the help he needs.

AFTER THE SMOKE – COME & LEAVE

Posted on 2013-05-20

The juxtaposition of nubile, women with various images that invoke death echo the vaguely haunting tone of this otherwise bright and airy track. Both the visuals and the music greet you like a warm embrace that ends with a knife to the back.

BLING RING OST

Posted on 2013-05-20

Def Jam will release the official soundtrack for The Bling Ring– the new Sofia Coppola-directed, Emma Watson-starring film based on the true story of a group of kids in L.A. who robbed celebrities’ homes.
The film was scored by Daniel Lopatin, aka synth experimentalist Oneohtrix Point Never, working with with longtime Coppola collaborator Brian Reitzell. Reitzell also served as the executive soundtrack producer and music supervisor, putting together a very eclectic mix of rap (Kanye, Azealia Banks, Rick Ross) and krautrock (Klaus Schulze, Can) plus the likes of Sleigh Bells, M.I.A., Frank Ocean, and Phoenix. Check out the tracklist below.

Lopatin and Reitzell previously worked on music for the Kelsey Grammer-starring television show “Boss”. Reitzell previously worked with Coppola on Marie Antoinette, Lost in Translation, and The Virgin Suicides. Lopatin and Reitzell also collaborated on a track for the Bling Ring soundtrack, “Bling Ring Suite”.
