The first solo photo exhibition by Keegan Gibbs. Open Space is a collection of images, collages, and installations which are inspired by his life in surfing.
Open Space is my expression of the state one falls into while floating weightless off shore, looking out to sea, hoping and waiting for the next set. Troubles are isolated far away on the unreality of land, while you are free in the truest reality of water. It is a timeless unspoilable state that cannot be ruined, not even by the angry local that may be slashing your tires and waxing your windows simply because he doesn’t want to share some waves. To a surfer it’s an understandable act of necessary evil to keep an ungoverned subculture in form, and from it breaking into full bore beach-blanket-bingo havoc.
Exhibition runs from January 15th to February 5th, 2011

TweetWhen Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin signed on to shoot the fall/winter 2010/11 Balmain campaign starring Kate Moss, they did so as double agents. Without anyone knowing, the renowned fashion photographers set up four surveillance-style cameras to capture Moss’s unbridled performance on set. The short film, titled Everglade, takes its name from the haunting Antony and the Johnsons song that serves as its soundtrack.
TweetShot in the style of 1970s Italian giallo (meaning “yellow”, which stems from the origin of the genre as a series of cheap paperback novels with trademark yellow covers) it also serves as a homage to the horror films of Dario Argento. Even the plot summary feels as if it was written on a hazed 70’s evening. Three key moments, all of them sensual, define Ana’s life. Her carnal search sways between reality and colored fantasies becoming more and more oppressive. A black laced hand prevents her from screaming. The wind lifts her dress and caresses her thighs. A razor blade brushes her skin, where will this chaotic and carnivorous journey leave her?
