GREENE & GREENE

Posted on 2009-04-13

The Huntington, in partnership with The Gamble House, USC, presents the most comprehensive exhibition ever undertaken on the work of Arts and Crafts legends Charles Sumner Greene and Henry Mather Greene — the first such exhibition to travel outside of California.

A ‘New and Native’ Beauty: The Art and Craft of Greene & Greene” presents for the first time a diverse range of Greene and Greene work—conceptual sketches, drawings, furnishings and fixtures, in many cases long-separated from their houses and from each other. Together the works highlight the component parts essential to an appreciation of the interdependent quality of Greene and Greene’s output.

This exhibition runs until the 7th of June, 2009

D-FACE THE G20

Posted on 2009-04-13

During the recent G20 summit in London, Local street artist DFace took the opportunity to showcase some new work, not on the street but on digital billboards around the city. Several variations of the G20 £20 pound note are being displayed with the Queen in varying states of makeup and facelifts, something DFace has become quite good at. So did he hack the ad space or buy it?

Just over a year ago, SKULLPHONE put his character up on digital displays around LA. Some bloggers claimed their “boy” hacked into Clear Channel’s computers, but that was a lie. He actually paid for the self-advertisements. Did D*Face do the same?

CAMPER TOGETHER WITH BERNHARD WILLHELM

Posted on 2009-04-13

The new To & Ether collection from Camper, points directly at the avant-garde of alternative fashion. The unique signature of Bernhard Willhelm, the outstanding disciple of the prestigious school in Antwerp and the same school that in the 80´s formed talents like Dries Van Noten, Ann Demeulemeester, Dirk Bikkembergs, Dirk Van Saene and Martin Margiela (the generation known as the “Antwerp six”).

Willhelm has designed shoe collections for both men and women. Moccasins and sandals fabricated with handcrafted techniques and recycled materials, hand sewn, coloured felts with rubber soles. The innovation is also illustrated simply, with actual traits of common sense. “I wanted to apply ethical and ecological criteria in the making of this shoe collection. I would like people to keep these criteria in mind when they are choosing a shoe”. Willhelm’s designs are added to those that Jaime Hayon, Alfredo Häberli and Maria Blaisse have developed “together” within Camper’s new creative adventure.

CONSORTIUM NIZZA

Posted on 2009-04-13

Utilizing the simple, clean silhouette of the Nizza, the Stripes pack from the adidas Consortium range celebrates 60 years of the 3-Stripes and provides two fresh, contrasting options for the summer months ahead. The pack features both a hi and low version of the Nizza, a shoe that seems to be ever present in the recent plans at adidas HQ. The Nizza Hi adds to its vulcanized heritage with a shiny, patent upper in a blue colorway with an orange trim sat on top of a crisp white midsole. The Nizza Lo is a more understated affair and presents a tonal colorway of yellow on grey on a fleece material upper.
